The animation uses falling flower petals as a recurring visual metaphor for life and death. Sunflower petals introduce Harold’s fascination with death and his staged suicides, while a falling daisy petal at the end symbolizes Maude’s death. This visual parallel reflects Harold’s transformation—from being obsessed with death to discovering the joy and meaning of life through Maude.
